NAR surveyed members on the impact of the coronavirus on their market, including mortgage rates, buyer interest, and seller behavior.

Existing-Home Sales

Of the four major regions, only the Northeast reported a drop in sales, while other areas saw increases, including sizable gains in the West.

Pending Home Sales

The West reported a minor drop in month-over-month contract activity, while the other three major regions each saw pending home sales grow. Year-over-year pending home sales activity was up in all four regions.

While measures are being taken to keep people safe and avoid overloading the hospital system beyond capacity, they have an economic cost in terms of lost revenues, especially in states where these industries comprise a larger share of their economic output and employment should there be some temporary layoffs. States need to plan to mitigate these economic impacts.
