A REALTOR® since 2001, John is Broker/Owner of Six Lakes Realty, along with his wife and partner, Julie.

At the national level, John has served NAR in numerous capacities, most recently as the 2017 Vice Chair of the Finance Committee. He was the 2013 Vice President for Region VII, comprised of Illinois, Indiana, and Wisconsin. John also served as the REALTOR® Party Member Involvement Liaison in 2014. He has been a member of the NAR Board of Directors since 2010 and has been appointed to multiple NAR committees and work groups, including the Strategic Planning Committee, RPAC Fundraising Trustees, NAR’s Membership Structural Review PAG, and NAR’s Advocacy Work Group.

The Wisconsin REALTORS® Association (WRA) elected John their Treasurer in 2008 followed by Chairman-Elect and Chairman of the Board in 2010. John was named Wisconsin’s REALTOR® of the Year in 2010, as recognition for his years of service to the membership. He continues to serve on their Board of Directors and multiple committees within Wisconsin.

His local association, the REALTORS® Association of Northwest Wisconsin (RANWW), elected John their president in 2009. John has served on the RANWW Board of Directors since 2002 and still sits on the board today. He was honored with the RANWW REALTOR® of the Year award in 2009.

John has a Master’s of Science in International Relations from Troy State University and a Bachelor of Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota.

In his local community, he and his firm give back in many capacities. They are actively involved with the local Chamber of Commerce, Lions Club, Benjamin House Emergency Shelter, and the Chetek Food Shelf, among others. John serves as Vice President of the Chetek-Weyerhaeuser Scholarship Foundation and sits on the Board of Directors for the Chetek Lakes Protection Association.

Prior to his real estate career, John was a Lieutenant in the United States Navy, where he earned two Air Medals in recognition of his flights over Iraq and Bosnia. After his active duty service, he was a Lieutenant Commander in the United States Navy Reserve for four years in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Mabél is a broker at @properties in Chicago, where she specializes in residential real estate, rehabbing properties, and working with investors.

Economic development, housing advocacy, and public policy are Mabél’s passions. At the national level, she has been a member of NAR’s Board of Directors on and off since 2009 and has previously served on the Executive Committee. On behalf of the National Association of REALTORS®, Mabél testified before the House Financial Services Committee in 2019 about the reauthorization of the National Flood Insurance Program.

In 2014 she served as Chair of the Conventional Financing and Policy Committee, where she also testified on behalf of NAR’s more than one million members before the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Urban Affairs and Banking on "Inequality and Opportunity in the Housing Market."

Mabél also served as the President Liaison for the 2018 Global Alliances Advisory Board, was a Global Ambassador to Brazil, and has experience serving on numerous committees. Those include Strategic Thinking, Meeting and Conference, Housing Opportunity, and Federal Housing and Finance. She’s also served on two Presidential Advisory Groups.

At the state level, Mabél served on the Illinois REALTORS® Board of Directors from 2009 to 2011. In 2014, 2015, and 2018 she received the Illinois REALTORS® President’s Medallion for Outstanding Service.

Mabél is also a member of the Chicago Association of REALTORS® and served as its Treasurer in 2009 and President in 2011. In 2012, the Chicago Association of REALTORS® named Mabél their REALTOR® of the Year. In 2016, she received the Community Service Award.

Mabél cares deeply about community service and has frequently partnered with Habitat for Humanity, One Hope United, and the First United Methodist Homeless Ministry. Christine E. Hansen (GRI), a REALTOR® for more than 30 years, is the 2020 Vice President of Advocacy for the National Association of REALTORS®. She has served in association leadership almost continuously at the state and national levels. 

As 2019 REALTOR® Party Director, she’s focused on ensuring REALTORS® understand the strength of their collective voice on Capitol Hill and in their state and local legislatures advocating for the many critical public policy issues affecting our industry.

Hansen has been an NAR Director since 2006, with a brief break during 2010 to 2011. She served on the NAR Strategic Planning Committee from 2007 to 2014. In 2017, she was NAR Liaison for Member Relations.

In state leadership, Hansen served as 2018 president of Florida REALTORS® and its 180,000 members, a culmination of many years of service in Florida governance roles, including as a Florida Director. She has held numerous committee and task force posts in the Greater Fort Lauderdale Association, now the REALTORS® of the Palm Beaches and Greater Fort Lauderdale Association (RAPM-GFLR).

Hansen is broker-owner of Century 21 Hansen Realty in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., a full-service 80-practitioner strong real estate company with residential, luxury homes, rental, and relocation departments. Real estate practice runs in her family. Her mother, Anita Hansen, was a REALTOR® and founded Hansen’s company. Her daughter, Jennifer Parker, and son-in-law are also REALTORS® in Florida.

Awards include REALTOR® of the Year for RAPM-GFLR in 2018 and for the Fort Lauderdale association in 2008, not to mention a variety of Century 21 accolades.

Hansen is a life coach, helping people reach their full potential personally and professionally so they can lead more joyful and healthy lives. As a trained mediator, she conducts mediation for brokers and local associations.

She has been involved in numerous civic and charitable endeavors, including fundraising to help a REALTOR® who was injured in the 2012 Boston marathon bombing. In her community, she supports Easter Seals; Challenge Air, which takes physically challenged children on inspiring airplane flights; and Silent Angels, a charity that provides funds, supplies, and services to individuals who are making a determined effort yet are financially needy or otherwise distressed.

At the national level, she has been a member of NAR’s Board of Directors since 2009 and has served several years on the Executive Committee. In 2013, she served on the NAR Leadership Team as vice president.

Leslie is very active in REALTOR® Party activities. She is a member of the RPR Board of Directors and was a longtime Regent for the REALTOR® University. She has experience serving on numerous NAR committees, including Finance, Strategic Thinking, Communications, and Research.

At the state level, Leslie was the 2016 Chairman of the Board for Texas REALTORS®. She has served on their Board of Directors for multiple terms. She was named their 2018 REALTOR® of the Year and received the Texas REALTORS® Distinguished Service Award in 2014. She was the founder of the Texas REALTORS® state YPN Network.

Leslie is a past recipient of the Salesperson of the Year from a local association. She received REALTOR® of the Year from her local board, the Collin County Association of REALTORS® in Plano, Texas. She served as president of the Dallas chapter of the Women’s Council of REALTORS® in 1998, and in 2014, she was named Entrepreneur of the Year for the Texas Women’s Council of REALTORS® Chapter.

She is engaged in her community and has been active in affordable housing programs, neighborhood revitalization, and housing opportunity initiatives. Leslie has a bachelor’s degree in Communications from the Ohio State University and was named an Outstanding Young Alumni.

John Smaby, a REALTOR® from Edina, Minn., is the 2020 Immediate Past President of the National Association of REALTORS®.

A second-generation REALTOR®, John has been in the industry for 40+ years. He is a broker at Edina Realty, where he specializes in residential real estate.

John is a member of the Minnesota Association of REALTORS® (MNAR), and has held numerous leadership positions there. He served as MNAR president in 2015 and treasurer in 2013. John was the RPAC chair from 2013 to 2015 as well as the RPAC Trustees chair in 2014. That same year, he chaired the Public Advocacy committee. He has been a member of the MNAR Board of Directors since 2013. In 2013, John received the Ed Anderson Political Achievement Award and in 2014, MNAR named him their REALTOR® of the Year.

John has been dedicated to serving his industry since the beginning of his career. While at the Minneapolis Area Association of REALTORS® (MAAR), he participated on numerous committees beginning in the 1980s, including professional standards, education, communication, risk management, and MLS, to name a few. He served two terms on the Board of Directors and in 2004 he served on the Regional MLS Board of Directors.

John’s spirit of service doesn’t stop at his profession. In Edina, he has led the Minnesota Youth Forum, Washburn Community Ministries, and the City of Edina Adult Education Board. He has also tutored students at Minneapolis Washburn High School. He has been a member of the Edina Rotary Club and the Edina Chamber of Commerce. John has been married to his wife, Linda, who is also a REALTOR®, for more than 30 years. They enjoy spending time at their cabin in Northern Minnesota.

Lawrence Yun is Chief Economist and Senior Vice President of Research at the National Association of REALTORS®. He oversees and is responsible for a wide range of research activity for the association including NAR’s Existing Home Sales statistics, Affordability Index, and Home Buyers and Sellers Profile Report. He regularly provides commentary on real estate market trends for its 1.4 million REALTORS®.

Dr. Yun creates NAR’s forecasts and participates in many economic forecasting panels, among them the Blue Chip Council and the Wall Street Journal Forecasting Survey. He also participates in the Industrial Economists Discussion Group at the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University. He appears regularly on financial news outlets, is a frequent speaker at real estate conferences throughout the United States, and has testified before Congress. Dr. Yun has also appeared as a guest on CSPAN’s Washington Journal.

Dr. Yun received his undergraduate degree from Purdue University and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland at College Park.
