NAR NXT, 2023 AEC Report to the Executive Committee

CHAIR: Jessica Coates (CA)

VICE CHAIR: Theresa Hatton (MA)

COMMITTEE LIAISON: Andrea McKey (LA)

STAFF EXECUTIVE: Cindy Sampalis

The following is reported for your information only and does not affect Association policy or budget.

  1. The Reimagine Core Standards Work Group is conducting a comprehensive review of the current Core Standards program and identifying necessary revisions to ensure that associations continue to meet basic standards for serving members.  A survey was sent to all AEs to provide feedback on the current Core Standards and solicit suggestions to improve the program.  Survey results provided a framework for the work group’s approach, some of which focuses on the Core Standards Certification Form.  In response, updates to the form will be effective with the 2024 review cycle.  The work group will continue its review and final recommendations for changes to the standards will be submitted at the May 2024 Legislative Meetings.
  2. AE Institute Advisory Board is finalizing the curriculum and speakers for the 2024 Joint AE Institute. The 2024 AE Institute is a Joint AE Institute with the Canadian Real Estate Association, March 12-15, at the Hilton Bayfront in San Diego. Registration will launch on Thursday, December 14. Tuition is $625.
  3. The New AE Orientation Work Group provided input on the format and curriculum of NAR’s New AE Orientation program to ensure that NAR delivers valuable information and resources to assist AEs in their new positions.  Work group members audited the summer orientation program that was held live in Chicago and virtually, and shared their recommendations to staff for consideration as the orientation program is revised.  The work group also provided recommendations to update and modernize some of the online tools and resources for new AEs.
  4. The Local and State Partnership Work Group was formed to examine AE partnerships between local and state associations and to determine how to strengthen and enhance relationships to ensure greater cooperation, alignment, and support.  The work group concluded that alignment of services, coupled with greater communication that conveys the member value proposition, benefits every level of the REALTOR® association.  The work group identified tangible actions and processes that strengthen and move the partnership forward, some of which include offerings at the Summit and AE Institute.  The GAD Institute is another opportunity to communicate this message and focus on the importance of synergy with legislative agendas. There will also be virtual and online options to get this messaging across.
  5. The Association Diversity Work Group was apprised of the progress in implementing NAR’s DEI Strategic Plan.  The work group was also presented with the results of the State/Local REALTOR® Association DEI Survey, which will be used to guide future DEI initiatives.  The work group will transition to a standing advisory board of the Association Executive Committee in 2024 and will continue to collaborate with the Diversity Committee to support efforts to implement NAR’s DEI Strategic Plan initiatives, and support local and state association staff with guidance, tools, and resources.
  6. The Volunteer Leadership Advisory Board reviewed the Volunteer Leadership Toolkit on nar.realtor and provided feedback on the resources, tools, and educational options that the toolkit offers to support volunteers during their leadership journey.
  7.  Michael Theo, RCE, CAE, Wisconsin REALTORS® Association, was awarded the William R. Magel Award of Excellence, which is the highest award an AE can receive. It is presented to an individual who has truly excelled in his or her role as an association executive of a local or state REALTOR® association, or regional MLS. The survey results will guide the work group’s next steps.

The group will meet virtually on June 27 to share the output of these three breakout teams and determine next steps.
