NAR President Testifies on UAS

NAR President Chris Polychron testifying before the U.S. House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet

On Thursday, September 10, NAR 2015 President Chris Polychron testified at a House Judiciary Subcommittee on Courts, Intellectual Property, and the Internet at a hearing on “Unmanned Aerial Vehicles: Commercial Applications and Public Policy Implications.”  The hearing focused on aspects of protecting safety and privacy, while still fostering a regulatory environment that allows UAS technology to be used for commercial purposes.

In his opening remarks, President Chris highlighted the many potential applications UAS have for the real estate industry, beyond photography to property inspection and land surveying.  He also highlighted NAR's commitment to creating a culture of safe and responsible UAS use through a strong education campaign and working with federal agencies.  Responding to questions on protecting privacy, President Polychron discussed the work that NAR has done with the FAA and the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) to develop educational resources and work towards an industry-wide standard for best practices, the NAR code of ethics, which prescribes data security and privacy protection practices for members.
