Presenter: Brian Portnoy

This webinar addresses how even under the best of circumstances, making decisions about money is difficult. Our brains evolved many eons ago and are not ideally wired to navigate a modern world marked by extreme complexity and boundless information. Introduce a global crisis into the mix and much can go haywire. Nonetheless, in any crisis there are the makings of opportunity for repair and growth. The current crisis provides the chance to not just reexamine the decisions we’ve made but make better ones going forward. In this talk, we will review various aspects of “money life” – including investing, saving, spending, and giving – and suggest best practices for each. We will recognize that sometimes “simple” advice is not easy to follow, thanks in part to the mismatch between our old world brains and new world markets. Finance is intimidating for a reason. We’re not so much “irrational” as we are normal. Because better financial decisions can only be made within a broader discussion of purpose and what’s really important, we will frame our discussion around the true definition of wealth, which is the ability to underwrite a meaningful life.
