On March 11, 2021, the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Consumer Protection and Financial Institutions held a hearing titled, “Slipping Through the Crack: Policy Options to Help America’s Consumers During the Pandemic.” The hearing focused primarily on protecting consumers during the pandemic and matters related to mortgage forbearance, debt collection practices, student loan debt relief, credit scoring, small business support and more. NAR provided a statementpdf for the hearing expressing thanks to the Committee for working to support REALTORS®, small business owners, renters, and homeowners during the pandemic through the stimulus packages and the recent passage of the American Rescue Plan. NAR also weighed in mortgage forbearance program and student debt policy proposals, as Congress looks to protect consumers now and after the pandemic.
