On Oct. 22, 2012, The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) announced that it would begin accepting consumer complaints about credit reporting agencies and individual credit report problems.  The CFPB indicated that it would assist consumer with complaints on issues such as:

  • Incorrect information on a credit report,
  • A consumer reporting agency’s investigation,
  • Improper use of a credit report,
  • Being unable to get a copy of a credit score or file, and
  • Problems with credit monitoring or identify protection services.

The CFPB indicated that consumers should first attempt to work with the credit reporting agencies when they have a dispute, but should contact the Bureau if they are dissatisfied with the result.
