Coming Soon: Implicit Bias Training on Fair Housing
NAR and the Perception Institute have teamed up to create a curriculum that will help REALTORS recognize unconscious biases that may get in the way of offering the best service to every customer. The Perception Institute, one of the nation's premier trainers on Implicit Bias, helps people identify "thinking traps" that can lead to a REALTOR losing a sale, and a consumer losing a housing opportunity. Look for the full one-hour video introducing Implicit Bias Training on the nar.realtor/fair-housing page later in May.
Announcement of Implicit Bias Training on Fair Housing: Transcript
Hi, I’m Afua Addo, Deputy Director of Training & Programs at the Perception Institute. In commemoration of Fair Housing Awareness, the National Association of Realtors has partnered with us to support your role in helping people buy, sell, and rent homes.
In a time when the literal space we occupy is at the forefront of our minds and our homes are now our refuge it is more important than ever to think about the shared and different experiences of others as a way to improve our engagement with one another.
Fair housing matters because our communities are best when everyone has access to housing and shelter and when we promote open, accessible and inclusive experiences for all people.
For years, we as a nation have talked about achieving Fair Housing and in the film we are developing for NAR, we will share tools to combat the biases and other dynamics that can get in the way.
These will support your efforts to exercise care, consideration and compassion across all lines of difference in an effort to ensure that the experience of home remains safe and protected. We thank you for taking the time to learn with us today and hope you share this information. It is essential to keep in mind that healing happens in relationships and we are all better when we positively and genuinely interact with people representing all experiences, backgrounds and identities.
Together with NAR we look forward to sharing with you tools and resources to support your Fair housing aspirations and the success of your business. We trust that the film we are creating can help us all do just that.
