Dan Davies is a busy guy. But Davies, 54, who traces his Lake George family lineage back to the 1700s, isn’t too busy to help others.

He has been a key member of the North Queensbury Volunteer Fire Company for 36 years. He’s been chief and assistant chief. He’s a Master Diver on North Queensbury’s dive team, certified in ice diving, deep-water and river rescue. He’s responded to calls involving some of his best friends. He’s saved countless lives.

Asked how it feels to be a national finalist for the Good Neighbor Award, he said, "I'm humbled. There are a lot of great people in Warren County doing an amazing job, and every one of us is important. With volunteerism waning, we've all got to buck up." By being a finalist, Davies has already won a $2,500 grant for the North Queensbury Fire Company. Two winners will receive additional $10,000 grants for the charity of their choice.
