In the last month, three judges in three separate antitrust cases have dismissed claims against the National Association of REALTORS®. In two of those cases, the judge ruled that the claims could not be relitigated in the future, a significant legal victory.
The most recent decision reinforces NAR’s “position that its policies foster competition,” says NAR General Counsel Jon Waclawski.
Maintaining that momentum, NAR announced on Thursday the hiring of Andowah Newton as associate general counsel and vice president, litigation. Newton brings a wealth of knowledge, including experience in litigation and risk management.
Before coming to NAR, she served as vice president, legal affairs and head of litigation at a global luxury conglomerate, directing legal strategy for over 30 brands and advising C-suite executives on complex and high-stakes issues, including those pertaining to real estate. Before that, she held roles at top law firms, including Hogan Lovells and Mintz Levin. She is also the founder and president of The RAN Fund, a youth empowerment nonprofit, where she oversees financial compliance, the maintenance of its tax-exempt status and nonprofit governance.
“Andowah brings a valuable combination of litigation experience, financial acumen and strategic judgment,” says Waclawski. “Her experience managing complex legal matters, coupled with her hands-on understanding of nonprofit compliance and governance, makes her exceptionally well-suited to guide NAR’s litigation strategy in this evolving landscape. We’re excited to welcome her to the team.”
