When Gable got into the land business, he was the youngest associate at his company. He made up for inexperience by doing his homework: tracking bank lot sales, gathering as much data as possible about the Atlanta metro area’s 145,000 vacant developed lots, and developing an Excel model to show investors an internal rate of return for a property. In 2010, he sold almost 3,000 lots and more than 2,000 acres of raw land. His advice: Use Google Maps to show properties you’ve sold as well as properties for sale.
