Taking the Reins

When Chelsea Halverson tried to slow down, her business went into overdrive.

At the end of 2022, the Seattle-area practitioner left her team to go out on her own. Her goal, she says, was to create a process that let her make more personal connections with her clients. ”I’m a people person, and I knew there was an opportunity to be a lot more nurturing with transactions,” says Halverson, 27. “Now I really emphasize education so [my clients] understand the contract details as we get to closing.”

Halverson starts most client relationships with a conversation that could range from 20 minutes to more than an hour. She’s had some clients tell her they learned more in those conversations than they did in six months working with other agents.

She has put her energy into slowing down the process for her clients, which hasn’t hurt one bit. Beyond better-informed clients, the changes Halverson has made in her business have also increased her happiness. As of the first quarter of this year, she was on pace to close the same volume she did last year.

“I’m definitely staying busy and staying in front of people, and I’m saying yes to a lot more things,” Halverson says. “I’m driving the ship right now. That’s just motivating me more.”
