Work Group Purpose
Identify a body of knowledge for volunteer leadership and create a curriculum that identifies training and orientation programs that can be offered at all levels of the REALTOR® association.
Meeting Activity
The work group reviewed the Volunteer Leadership Competencies document, which was finalized at the July 2018 work group meeting in Chicago (Appendix A). The competencies lay the foundation for a curriculum that may include orientation and training programs and resources for volunteer leaders from all REALTOR® association entities. The new 2019 AEC Volunteer Leadership Advisory Board will use this document as a starting place to develop a blueprint for a curriculum that charts a professional development path for volunteer leaders at all levels of the REALTOR® association.
Lisa Herceg, NAR Director of Marketing Research, facilitated the review of a draft survey that will be sent to all state and local REALTOR® association AEs, presidents, and presidents-elect. The purpose of the survey is to provide input that will help the AEC Volunteer Leadership Advisory Board determine what types of training and professional development programming is needed to prepare volunteer leaders for their REALTOR® association leadership roles. The survey results will reveal what programs currently exist and what’s needed; and where there are redundancies and where there are consistencies amongst all levels. Advisory board members recommended some changes to the survey, but agreed that the new Volunteer Leadership Advisory Board should review the survey before it’s deployed next year.
The final competencies document and the draft survey are the starting point for the Volunteer Leadership Advisory Board, which will be led by Chair Janet Kane, RCE, and Vice Chair Asa Fleming.
