NAR sent a letter to the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee asking them to oppose any transportation package that includes using GSE g-fees as a pay-for of federal transportation funding. Included in the letter, was information about two programs that help create livability in communities across the United States: Transportation Alternatives Program (TAP) and Safe Streets. TAP has been around for over twenty years and provides a portion of funding for sidewalks, bike lanes, and environmental mitigation efforts. NAR asked members to maintain the current TAP program and funding level. NAR has been a member of the Complete Streets National Coalition for over eight years. NAR asked members of the House T & I Committee to establish as baseline of safety design to accommodate all users of transportation systems.
