REALTORS®, members of the National Association of REALTORS®, do more than help people buy, sell and lease property. They also make an extraordinary impact as volunteers serving nonprofit causes in their communities. In fact, REALTORS® volunteer at more than twice the rate of the typical American, with 69% of members volunteering monthly.
People who volunteer typically don’t seek or expect recognition, but NAR shines a spotlight on its members’ generosity each year through REALTOR® Volunteer Days. This year, during the week of May 30–June 7, NAR is inviting members, REALTOR® associations and real estate companies to participate in a nationwide week of giving back.
Who’s Part of REALTOR® Volunteer Days?
Last year, about 110,000 REALTORS® volunteered during the weeklong event, and half of local and state REALTOR® associations hosted a volunteer project and recognized members for giving back.
Many associations have projects planned, so check to see if you can join their efforts. Popular projects include Habitat for Humanity build days, food packing and distribution and park cleanups.
Among the interesting projects happening this year include:
- South Shore REALTORS® (Massachusetts) will build beds for displaced children.
- Prescott Area Association of REALTORS® (Arizona) is collecting diapers for families in need.
- Space Coast Association of REALTORS® (Florida) is running a pet food drive.
If there’s not already a volunteer opportunity happening in your area, you can make it happen: Reach out to your favorite local charity—on your own, with friends or coworkers or with other association members. An easy way to give back that doesn’t require planning ahead is to grab a pair of gloves and a few trash bags and pick up litter at a local park or town plaza.
