I was speaking with a REALTORⓇ the other day who indicated that because they had immigrated to America, they thought focusing on International real estate was going to be easy. I proceeded to tell them that while first hand experience of coming to this country is definitely an advantage, it doesn’t really prepare you for the daily rigors of working in international real estate. Aside from the fact that real estate laws and processes differ drastically in various parts of the world, you are also challenged with dealing with people who speak different languages (many of which you may not know), have different cultural experiences or norms, use different forms of currency, are used to different forms of banking and finance, use different forms of measurements, and so on.
They took a step back and realized what they were getting into. I told them not to worry, that first there is an amazing network of REALTORSⓇ there to help and of course suggested they look into any international groups that might be available in their market such as a Global Business Council in their state/local association, and in obtaining their CIPS designation. They knew I was a techy person, they then asked if the tech tools their company provided were sufficient and I responded, that while some of them might be of help in some cases, the truth is most technology solutions built for real estate in America, don’t always translate to international if you know what I mean ;).
But the good news is there are some amazing technology solutions I could share that can help today’s International REALTORⓇ seamlessly work with (marketing, communication, build relationships with, establish processes, etc.) customers no matter where they are in the world.
