What Is an RAA Designation, and Who Is It For?

The Residential Accredited Appraiser (RAA) designation is for State Certified Residential or General Appraisers. Earning it shows that you have completed appraisal education above and beyond that required for qualification as a residential appraiser.

How to Earn the RAA Designation


  • Complete 45 hours of tested course work in addition to the Appraiser Qualification Board's education requirement at the time of certification.

Work Experience

  • You must have a minimum of 1000 hours of appraisal work experience beyond state certification requirements.

Professional Affiliation

  • Member in good standing of the National Association of REALTORS® or one of its Affiliates:
    • Institute of Real Estate Management (IREM)
    • Commercial Real Estate Institute (CCIM)
    • REALTORS® Land Institute (RLI)
    • Society of Industrial and Office REALTORS® (SIOR)
    • Counselors of Real Estate (CRE)
  • Hold a current state residential appraiser license
