REALTOR® Emeritus is an honorary status recognizing long-term dedication and service to the National Association of REALTORS®. Eligible members whose applications are approved receive a permanent dues waiver of the NAR portion of your board dues and are exempt from the Code of Ethics and Fair Housing training requirement.

Eligibility Criteria

To qualify for REALTOR® Emeritus status, members must meet both of the following:

  • 40 cumulative years of membership as a REALTOR® or REALTOR-ASSOCIATE® (or both)
  • 1 year of service at the national level, including roles such as:
    • Committee Member
    • Officer or Director
    • Federal Political Coordinator
    • Global Ambassador or Global Coordinator to a country with an NAR bilateral partnership

How to Apply

  • The application must be submitted by the member’s local association.
  • Include documentation verifying 40 years of membership and 1 year of NAR-level service.
  • Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
  • Upon approval by NAR’s Board of Directors, the dues waiver takes effect the following dues year.

All applications received by this date will be considered at NAR NXT in New Orleans this November. Application reopens June 15, 2026.

Need to Complete Your National Service Requirement?

Since 2019, as approved by NAR’s Delegate Body, one year of volunteer service at the national level has been required to achieve REALTOR® Emeritus status. 

In order to become eligible, members who have yet to serve at the national level may apply to be considered for NAR committee service.

Please Note: Committee applications are open from April – June each year. Applications are required for consideration, and placement on a committee is not guaranteed.
