Networking at NAR NXT: Don’t Leave It Up to Chance

Explore the many ways to connect with fellow attendees, and take advantage of expo floor tours.

At NAR NXT, networking is facilitated, purposeful and curated based on your interests. Take advantage of the wide array of opportunities to connect.

Paula Fauth, CEM, CMP, director of national sales for NAR, will be providing expo introductions before the tours. REALTOR® Magazine asked Fauth for tips on conquering the expo floor.

Q: What recommendations do you have for navigating the expo and striking up conversations with exhibitors?

A: Using the event mobile app, you can build your personal profile, plan your schedule and review the exhibitors. “Favorite” the exhibitors you’re most interested in visiting.

Then, look at the expo floor plan before you start walking to make the most efficient use of your time on the show floor. Exhibitors are interested in talking to you. Don’t be afraid to make eye contact, engage in conversation and let them know if their product or service is of interest.

People often attend conferences without making the connections they wished they’d made. What are your tips for connecting with others?

If it’s your first time at NAR NXT or you’re a solo traveler, join colleagues at the first-time attendee meetup space in AXIS, and learn about the unique opportunities throughout the expo. Use the mobile app to plan the presentations, receptions and education sessions you want to attend both on and off the show floor.

Many people no longer carry business cards, which is fine because NAR NXT has unique QR codes for both attendees and exhibitors, accessible via the mobile app or on their badge—so don’t be surprised if exhibitors want to take a picture of your badge.

How would you define a valuable meeting connection?

A valuable connection is one that enables you to meet your goals. Determine your most important reason for attending. Is it to meet referral partners? Is it for the education? Do you want to try out products and services? Make time each day to evaluate your wins, and plan ahead for the following day.
