The News Is Good
After working for five years in TV news, Meredith Lane, 29, was worn down by the unrelenting stream of negative news stories. So she quit her job to go into real estate, working alongside her mother for a year. Despite the 2008 down market, she quickly became a top producer. Her journalism background, with its emphasis on relationship building, has come in handy. She now embraces both old and new media to spread her name and build contacts. She edits a lifestyle magazine for young professionals, hosts a radio show, and produces a Web video series that features homes, restaurants, and entertainment venues. “I wake up every day loving my job and the people I get to help and work with,” she says. In April, she excitedly rejoined her mom’s team.
