Jay S. Mitchell (e-PRO®, AHWD, C2EX, MRP, SFR®, CRB, CRS, GRI) is the National Association of REALTORS® Regional Vice President for Region 3, serving Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia.
Jay is celebrating his 20th year in real estate. He is a licensed broker in Virginia, North Carolina, and Nebraska, and currently serves as managing broker at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices RW Towne Realty in Virginia Beach, VA.
Jay’s commitment to the real estate sector is reflected in his roles within the National Association of REALTORS®. He has served as a member of NAR’s Board of Directors, Fair Housing Work Group, Diversity Committee, and Public Policy Coordinating Committee. He was also Chair of the Fair Housing Policy Committee in 2023.
Jay plays an active and integral role in NAR’s advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill. He is the current Federal Political Coordinator (FPC) for Sen. Tim Kaine (D-VA), having previously served in the same capacity for Rep. Glenn Nye (D, VA-2).
At the state level, Jay is closely involved with Virginia REALTORS®, having served as Vice President in 2016 and President in 2018. He was Chair of the Association’s Place of Business Presidential Advisory Group from 2022 to 2023, and a member of the Investment Management Committee and Economic Advisory Board in 2022.
Jay has been honored with numerous awards for his work in real estate. Among other accolades, he was named the 2006 Hampton Roads REALTORS® Association (HRAA) Rising Star of the Year, the 2016 HRRA REALTOR®/Broker of the Year, and the 2022 Virginia REALTORS® REALTOR® of the Year. He is also a member of the REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) Hall of Fame.
A graduate of Northwestern University, Jay began his professional career as an assignment editor at CNN in 1981. Until 2004, he served in several production roles for NBC, CBS, and ABC affiliates and covered a variety of breaking news stories. Over the course of his broadcast career he received multiple Associated Press and Emmy awards.
In addition to his professional commitments, Jay is dedicated to supporting charitable and community service organizations in Florida and Virginia, including Rotary International, Virginia Chorale, and Gulfstream Goodwill. He currently serves as a member of Norfolk Sunrise Rotary.
