The right lighting fixture can play a prominent design role, modernizing and upgrading the style of a space. I recently spotted several lighting trends while attending the recent Spring Market for designers in High Point, N.C. Here are a few:
- Black fixtures. Black is classic and dramatic, and it can fit into a traditional look or provide a modern edge. It goes well with just about everything inside and outside the home. A unique statement chandelier in black can dominate a room. We are seeing the black finish more and more, even in homes we stage in Atlanta.
- Natural and textured lighting. Think rattan, wicker, cane and sea grass in all shapes and sizes. These can be perfect for that beachfront getaway or lake house. The bigger, the better with this style. Light fixtures in natural rope—whether tied, twisted or hanging loose—give a neutral, modern and boho style that is so vogue. Even textured and natural materials, like stone, wood and metal, are all having their moment.
- Eclectic and modern lighting. This type of lighting is like an eye-catching art piece hung from the ceiling. It's no wonder lighting is the new fashion statement for a room, and entire spaces are being designed around them. The more unique, the more statement-worthy.
One Light at a Time
Consumers are studying lighting and looking for that perfect chandelier for the dining room, sconces in the owner’s suite or even a grouping of pendant lights in the kitchen. They are thinking about a piece of lighting for each space in a home individually rather than for the entire home all at once.
