
Based in Washington, DC, Alexia Smokler is NAR’s chief advisor on federal fair housing policy and represents NAR’s positions on fair housing to Congress and federal agencies. During Alexia’s tenure as staff executive to NAR’s Fair Housing Policy Committee, NAR leadership has adopted numerous policies strengthening NAR’s support for fair housing. Alexia also leads NAR’s fair housing education and programming, including the development of Fairhaven, Bias Override, and the Fair Housing Champion Award. She speaks regularly on fair housing issues around the country.
Before joining NAR, Alexia worked in fair housing enforcement at HUD, on the staff of Congressman John Conyers, Jr., and with nonprofit civil rights organizations. She is admitted to practice law in Maryland and holds a law degree from the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law; a master's degree in public affairs from Princeton University's School of Public and International Affairs; and a bachelor's degree in government from Smith College.
