
Based in Washington, DC, Alexia Smokler advises NAR on federal fair housing policy and represents the association before Congress and federal agencies. During her tenure, NAR leadership has adopted numerous policies strengthening the association’s commitment to fair housing and fair lending enforcement and expanding homeownership opportunities.
Alexia also leads NAR’s award-winning fair housing education and programming, including Fairhaven, Bias Override, and the Fair Housing Champion Award. She is a frequent national speaker on fair housing issues.
Before joining NAR, Alexia served in fair housing enforcement at HUD, on the staff of Congressman John Conyers, Jr., and with nonprofit civil rights organizations. She is admitted to practice law in Maryland and earned her J.D. from the U.C. Berkeley School of Law, an M.P.A. from Princeton University’s School of Public and International Affairs, and a B.A. in Government from Smith College.
