What Are AEC Representatives?

AEC representatives are appointed to serve as representatives from the AE Committee to NAR committees to ensure two-way communication. AEC representatives are responsible for ensuring that issues discussed in the respective committees have the benefit of the AE perspective and for ensuring that the AEC is apprised of issues being considered during and between NAR meetings.

AEC representatives are selected along with other committee members during the NAR committee selection process, and are full voting members of the committees on which they serve.

Roles and Responsibilities

All AEs interested in serving as an AEC Representative will apply to the respective committees on which they’d like to serve via the NAR committee application process (mid-March through late-May). In addition to completing the NAR committee application, AEs must also have a current Expertise Profile on file with NAR to be considered for an NAR committee appointment. AE terms on NAR committees will be the same length as REALTOR® member terms on those committees.

AEC Representative Job Description

Initiate a relationship with the committee chair and staff executive of the committee to which you are a representative; introduce yourself and explain your AEC representative role.
Review committee agendas prior to meetings and contact NAR staff and the NAR committee chair, when warranted, to discuss issues that the committee will address.

Actively participate in meetings of the committee to which you are a representative.
Complete an “AEC Representative Issues Identification Form” prior to RLM and NXT to inform AEC leadership of issues emanating from the committee to which you are a representative that may impact local and state associations.

Attend the AEC meeting and upon request address issues that will be discussed at the committee meeting to which you are a representative. Seek input and direction from the AEs on how you might provide feedback on pertinent issues. Be available to respond to questions on issues emanating from the committee to which you are a representative.

Based on input from the AEC, attend the NAR committee to which you are a representative and share comments and concerns on issues that impact local and state association operations. If you are unable to attend, ask another AE (preferably one who already serves on the committee) to take on your representative responsibilities for that meeting. If the committee to which you are a representative has advisory boards that report to the full committee, attend the advisory boards meetings as well.
