The national director entitlement process for state associations and local boards can be found in Article IV, Section 1 of NAR’s Constitution.
The number of national directors allocated to the state associations and local boards for the following year is based on the primary membership recorded in the National REALTORS® Database System (NRDS) on July 31.
Process, Deadlines, and Counts for 2022
State associations and local boards entitled to a representative follow these steps during the director entitlement process:
- Find out how many directors you have been allocated
- Choose your director(s)
- Submit director(s) name to NAR online for state associations and local boards by October 1. The association executive's username and password are required.

How NAR Calculates Director Entitlement
The NAR Constitution states that each state association automatically is entitled to two national directors on the Board of Directors. State associations may be entitled to more if they qualify as outlined in Article IV, Section 1 (R). Learn how NAR calculates state director entitlement.
Each local board with a membership of 2,000 or more shall be entitled to a number of directors determined by dividing the membership of the local board by 2,000 and rounding any resultant fraction to the next lower whole number as outlined in Article IV, Section 1 (Q).
