Amanda Ruchti, 29, considered becoming a travel writer, even majoring in journalism in college. But after a short stint in the travel industry, she went into real estate and hasn’t looked back. “I’ve always had an interest in homes and a career in sales,” she says. Ruchti is firmly in the soft sell camp: “I’m not pushy, and never put a commission check above my client’s interest. I believe that in life you get what you give,” she says. “I have walked away from a sale because I knew it was not in my client’s best interest. I never take short cuts.” Although she devotes enormous time and energy to the business—in 2011, she was top producer in her office and was nominated as one of the Rising Stars in Real Estate under 40 by the Houston Association of REALTORS® NextGen REALTOR® Group—Ruchti still finds space in her schedule to journey to far-flung destinations such as India, Myanmar, and Tanzania.
