Building on the foundation set by 1985 President David R. Roberts, 1986 National Association President, Clark E. Wallace, continued to foster a strong network of relationships among the National Association of REALTORS®, its affiliates, state associations, local boards, and its individual members, while increasing REALTORS®' professionalism.
Wallace too, was faced with the burdensome tax reform issue, which prompted him to organize the "Call for Action." He urged REALTORS® to write their U.S. Senators and alert them to the blatant inequities in the Senate Finance Committee's tax overhaul plan. The "Call for Action" became commonplace, and was regularly used to unite REALTORS® and alert Congress to the REALTOR® position on major legislative issues.
Wallace was a regional vice president for the Association in 1982 and served on the Association's Legislative Committee in 1980, 1981, and 1983. His other Association positions included chairmanship of the Convention Committee in 1980, and membership on the Strategic Planning Committee beginning in 1979, including chairman in 1983.
A director of the California Association of REALTORS® for 23 years, Wallace is now an honorary Director for Life. He served as the California Association's president for half of 1978 and all of 1979. He was selected California REALTOR® of the Year in 1979. In 1964, at age 29, he was the youngest president of the Contra Costa Board of REALTORS® and was selected its REALTOR® of the Year in 1972.
Wallace's civic activities include many years as a member and director of the Orinda Community Association, which he served as president in 1968. He was president of the Orinda Chamber of Commerce from 1966 to 1968, elected an Orinda School Board Trustee from 1969 to 1977, and served as president for two terms. He was named Orinda's "Citizen of the Year" in 1969.
More recently, Wallace has served as Chairman of the Board of the California Housing Finance Agency.
