After nearly two years of sustained advocacy by NAR, the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act was successfully signed into law in July 2026. This law represents a major milestone aimed at lowering housing costs and boosting the national housing supply. A recent poll from American Property Owners Alliance showed 89% of registered voters supported the 21st Century Road to Housing Act when presented with the bill’s 5 main goals:
- Increase the supply of affordable housing
- Convert vacant and abandoned buildings into housing
- Expand access to small-dollar mortgages and lower-income buyer options
- Restrict large corporate investors from buying single-family homes
- Improve housing options and home loan access for veterans
Voter breakdown of support:
- 89% of voters said they support the comprehensive housing legislation reflecting, broad bipartisan backing.
- 87% of Republicans supported the housing bill
- 92% of Democrats supported the housing bill
- 91% of Independents supported the housing bill
