21st Century ROAD to Housing Act

After nearly two years of sustained advocacy by NAR, the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act was successfully signed into law in July 2026. This law represents a major milestone aimed at lowering housing costs and boosting the national housing supply. A recent poll from American Property Owners Alliance showed 89% of registered voters supported the 21st Century Road to Housing Act when presented with the bill’s 5 main goals:

• Increase the supply of affordable housing
• Convert vacant and abandoned buildings into housing
• Expand access to small-dollar mortgages and lower-income buyer options
• Restrict large corporate investors from buying single-family homes
• Improve housing options and home loan access for veterans

Voter breakdown of support:

• 89% of voters said they support the comprehensive housing legislation reflecting, broad bipartisan backing.
• 87% of Republicans supported the housing bill
• 92% of Democrats supported the housing bill
• 91% of Independents supported the housing bill
