Hearing the words “you have skin cancer” hit Diskin Young hard at age 17. But even while dealing with stage 3 melanoma— surgery, chemotherapy, a year of interferon injections in his stomach, and daily flu-like side effects—he didn’t miss a single day of high school. “I’ve made it a point to act on my dreams today and prioritize what is most important to me.” The cancer has returned several times, but that hasn’t stopped Young, 27, from managing the brokerage he’s grown from 11 agents in 2015 to 60 today or from increasing its sales volume nearly 22 percent from 2017 to 2018. “We like to keep things fun, very collaborative, and fresh,” says Young, who, in training, stresses the importance of connecting authentically. “I believe that for the best results in this business, you have to be genuine with your clients.”
