Delanee Clark, 28, was faced with the tumultuous nature of the real estate market the second she stepped into the profession. Just six weeks after she obtained her license, she penned a contract for her buyer to purchase a $2.2 million industrial building. But an unexpected reversal of fortune caused her client to back out of the deal—and lose $50,000 in earnest money. “I was mortified,” Clark says. “But I learned a lot from that first unsuccessful transaction. Nothing is guaranteed in real estate.”
A week later, her contract on a much smaller building made it to the closing table with a $53,000 sales price. Her excitement returned. “I felt like a million bucks,” she says. “The thrill for me is making my clients happy and getting repeat business because I make them happy.”
Clark has gone on to prosper in the luxury ranch and farm niche. Her largest and most complex sale was a $6.9 million ranch listing last year that included more than 500 parcels. Clark’s shrewd marketing and ability to highlight the ranch’s unique characteristics resulted in a big win for her seller to the tune of $1 million more than the original listing price a previous agent had set for the property.
