How to Earn Your ABR® Designation
Be a Member of NAR
To become designated, you must be a member of the National Association of REALTORS® in good standing.
Complete the ABR® Designation Course
Learn your way—either online at your own pace or through an instructor-led class, offered in person or as a live interactive webinar.
Fulfill the Elective Requirement
Take one qualifying elective course online, in-person or in a live interactive webinar, if you have not done so already.
Finalize Transactions as a Buyer’s Rep
Complete five transactions working solely as a buyer’s rep (no dual agency). This can include up to two leases. These transactions do not need to fall within a specific period of time.
Submit Your Application
Use the online form to submit your application within three years of completing the designation course. You may only promote yourself with the ABR® Designation once you receive an email notification that it has been awarded.
Maintain Your ABR® Status
Your first year is free and begins upon successful completion of the ABR® course—not when you apply—and $110 is due annually for as long as you choose to maintain your status. You must also remain an active NAR member in good standing.
