NAR Says CFA 'Cartel' Report Flawed
The NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORSŪ responded swiftly this week to a report from the Consumer Federation of America charging that traditional real estate brokers act "as a cartel that tries to set prices and restrict service options."
The report fails to recognize that "real estate consumers can choose from nearly 80,000 real estate brokerages and more than 2 million real estate licensees," creating one of the most competitive business environments in the world, NAR said in an official statement Wednesday. "The real estate industry has been effectively harnessing the Internet for years, to the benefit of sellers and buyers alike."
