The Good Neighbor Awards recognize REALTORSŪ who've made an extraordinary commitment to improving the quality of life in their communities through volunteer work. Five winners will receive $10,000 grants for their cause. The 2009 deadline will be May 22.

"When I was awarded the Good Neighbor Award, it immediately brought attention to both of the projects that I was working on--Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Children's Memorial Park. We received donations and more volunteers because of the publicity. Other real estate professionals were very supportive, and in fact it has encouraged some of them to get involved in other projects. I received e-mails from Realtors across the country asking about specifics about fundraising and such. That was cool to think that I could assist someone else as a result of this honor that was bestowed upon me. It is an experience that I will never forget."

"There is no doubt that the Good Neighbor Award brought about a lot of awareness of the great things that Realtors do for their communities.There were four articles in the Durango Herald and, being a tourist town, thousands of people from all over the country read about our work. One of the agencies I gave the grant money to was the Four Corners Nursing Home. I received a touching thank-you card from a Realtor in Missouri saying she had a relative in that nursing home. I heard from friends in real estate from Florida to Washington and from agents that I didn’t know. It's very important for all of us to remember that we can’t all do great things but we all can do small things in a great way."
