The National Association of REALTORSŪ spent $5.6 million lobbying the federal government in the fourth quarter of 2009, down 14 percent from the same quarter in 2008.

The trade group successfully pushed for the extension and expansion of the home buyer tax credit through April 30. It also lobbied for foreclosure relief, healthcare provisions for small business owners, and protection from predatory lending, according to a filing with the U.S. House of Representative’s clerk’s office.

During the same quarter, the National Association of Mortgage Brokers spent $425,000 to lobby the federal government on issues related to the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act and mortgage disclosure. That amount was down almost 25 percent from what the organization spent in the same quarter the previous year.
