Daily Real Estate News  |  July 14, 2011  |   Man Sentenced to 4 Years for Harassing Agents
A Newark, Ohio, man was sentenced to four years in prison after pleading guilty to making sexual threats and harassing phone calls to several central Ohio real estate professionals.

Prior to the sentence, John Daniels, 45, told the court and his victims that he was sorry. “I would like to apologize for what I did to them putting them through that," said Daniels, who was convicted of similar charges in 1994 and 1998.

Delaware County prosecutors said that Daniels made threatening phone calls to several female real estate professionals, in which he’d request a showing of a home for-sale and then end each phone conversation with telling the agent that he was going to sexually assault them. Daniels had told the court that he found the women he contacted on real estate Web sites.

One of the real estate professionals who received the threatening phone calls told the judge prior to the sentencing that the incident has changed her view of the job. "I once was never afraid to meet anyone, and now my husband has to go on all of my appointments with me when I don't know the client. After [Daniels] had asked to meet, red flags were up already before the conversation even started."
