2016 Q3 Homeownership Opportunities and Market Experience (HOME) Survey

The Housing Opportunities and Market Experience (HOME) report was created to monitor consumer sentiment about the housing market. It covers core topics that will be tracked on a monthly basis such as views on housing as a good financial investment, whether homeownership is part of the American Dream, if now is a good time to buy or sell a home and perception of home price changes.


  • Respondent awareness of low downpayment mortgage options was minimal across all income and education brackets.
  • 37% of those 34 years or younger believe they need more than 20% for a downpayment, and only 13% that believe you need 5% or less.
  • Those 65 and over were more likely at 33% to help others with a downpayment.
  • Those 34 and under were the largest group to receive downpayment assistance from a parent or relative, at 34%.

This HOME survey will be released on a quarterly basis. The remaining release dates in 2016 will be:
