In this presentation, Dr. Hugh F. Kelly discusses his data-driven and insightful research on America’s 24-hour cities which first appeared in his book “24-Hour Cities: Real Investment Performance, Not Just Promises”. Dr. Kelly scores U.S. cities based on metrics such as “regional distinctiveness,” ease of mobility, neighborhood and cultural amenities, quality of labor, and criminality, among others, that separate these live-work -play cities from 18-hour or 9-to-5 cities. Dr. Kelly analyzes the revival of cities from their “urban dysfunction” and why some cities are still stuck with “hollow downtowns.’
