New Haven Middlesex Association of REALTORS®

Club: Boys & Girls Club of Milford
Years Involved: New Involvement

New Haven

After NAR announced the relationship with BGCA, NHMR connected with the Boys & Girls Club of Milford. Our President-elect has been involved with that local club for a number of years.

On August 7, the New Haven Middlesex Association of REALTORS® Young Professionals Network sponsored a Hydration Station at the Walnut Beach Ice Cream Run - Benefiting the Boys & Girls Club of Milford, CT. YPN volunteers were out bright and early at Mile Marker 2 to refresh the runners and walkers. Our YPN is looking forward to continuing to build a relationship with the Boys & Girls Club and participating in additional events and activities to support this terrific organization.

In July, NHMR made a $500 donation to the Boys & Girls Club of Milford. The Association’s President, David Gallitto, President-Elect, Carolyn Augur, CEO, Dawn Calvo and Education Director, Pat Boyle, received a tour of the facility and met with some of the children the Club serves.

Greater Piedmont Association of REALTORS®

Club: BGC of Madison, BGC of Orange, and 2 Clubs in Fauquier County
Years Involved: New Involvement

Greater PiedmontThanks to NAR President, Tom Salomone, for encouraging REALTORS® to participate in their local Boys & Girls Clubs. The Greater Piedmont Area Association of REALTORS® did just that.  We have four Clubs in our footprint, and we outreached to each of them to find out what their individual needs were. Based on that feedback, we went to our 630 REALTOR® members for help. And what a response we got!  We collected all the "need items" on their wish lists such as sports equipment, arts/crafts; books; board games; supplies, in addition to, an impressive $6,565 in monetary contributions! It was so gratifying to make the deliveries of these items and money to all the Clubs in our community and see the excitement and appreciation from the staff and kids!  Giving back and making an investment in the communities we serve supports our Strategic Plan and this was a very rewarding project!

Jefferson City Area Board of REALTORS®

Club: Boys & Girls Club of the Capital City
Years Involved: New Involvement

Jefferson CityWhen the National Association of REALTORS® announced its partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs of America, the timing was perfect. The Boys & Girls Club of the Capital City had just embarked on construction of a new facility, which is set to open in Q1 of 2017. We reached out to Stephanie Johnson, Executive Director of the Club, and she provided us with a list of items needed for the art classroom of their new facility. Our collection drive in July garnered many of the requested supplies to spur the students' creative side, but we also received over $500 in donations for the Club, as well. It was our privilege to partner with them and play a small part in the success of their new facility.

California Association of REALTORS®

Club: Variety Boys & Girls Club
Years Involved: New Involvement

California AssociationOn August 11, 2016 the California Association of REALTORS® hosted a school supplies drive at the Variety Boys & Girls Club. Some of the Officers, members of our Strategic Planning & Finance committee and C.A.R. staff members were present and handed out close to 300 backpacks with supplies ranging from notebooks, pens & pencils, crayons, scissors, highlighters, glue sticks, erasers, loose leaf paper and folders. We also got some composition books for the younger children to help with penmanship and learning the alphabet and some fun stickers. $2,700 of Payless Shoes Source gift cards were included and the boys & girls club staff will be taking the children there on a field trip as they were able to secure a discount.

The Officers were generous enough to provide a budget of up to $10,000. Less than $50 is left but much more was contributed as C.A.R. staff got involved and personally donated even more supplies. The day was absolutely memorable to us and seemingly to the children too. It became quite a production as the boys & girls club put on a carnival prior to the giveaway and local radio station Power 106 was there to provide music and festivities as well.

In addition to the school supplies drive C.A.R. contributed an additional $10,000 to benefit the Variety Boys & Girls Club 4th Annual Scholarship Gala. The scholarship program was funded in 1972. Since inception 649 club members have been awarded scholarships totaling $2,448,800. This year alone, 18 recipients were awarded scholarships totaling over $100,000. As major donors C.A.R. attended the Gala on August 18, 2016 with a table of 10. Although it might be a little premature it appears that some of the Directors in attendance will continue with this newly founded partnership. While at the gala a fantastic announcement was made. Thanks to all the donors more money was raised this year than all three combined. We were honored to be a part of something so spectacular.

Again, we are so grateful to NAR for helping bring awareness to this great cause. We are so happy to be a part of it and look forward to a continued partnership with this amazing organization.

Greater Fort Lauderdale Association of REALTORS®

Club: Boys & Girls Club of Broward County
Years Involved: New involvement

Ft LauderdaleSome of the best and brightest youth members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Broward County joined Broward County, Florida’s Mayor, Marty Kiar, and other top officials, National Association of Realtors® President, Tom Salomone, and Greater Fort Lauderdale (FL) Realtors® President, Howard Elfman, for a “Game Changer” Leadership Day this summer. The focus…Career! Civics! Civility! Community!

The day began at the Broward County, FL Governmental Center, where National Association of REALTORS® President, Tom Salomone, and GFLR President, Howard Elfman, talked about the importance of going above and beyond by always doing what is expected of you… “and then some.”  A representative of CareerSource Broward then engaged the participants in a discussion on possible career paths, and stressed the importance of identifying their strengths when considering career choices.

Next up, Broward County Mayor, Marty Kiar, and Broward County Commissioners, Chip LaMarca and Dale Holness, discussed building consensus across party lines and while representing different communities. They discussed the role of local government in assessing property values, along with the importance of taking the lead in keeping neighborhoods safe and clean in order to maintain and improve property values. The students then took to the Commission Dias to participate in a Mock Commission Hearing.

The BGC members later visited the Ft. Lauderdale International Airport to meet with Broward Sheriff Office deputies and tour the Airport Fire Station and the Operations Center, in order to understand the role of and build a relationship with first responders in our communities. Many were intrigued by the career choices of the aviation and emergency officials.

Club: Boys & Girls Club of Greater St. Louis
Years Involved: New Involvement

St LouisIn July, St. Louis REALTORS® heard there was a critical shortage of school supplies for the more than 6,500 youth the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis serves heading into Fall 2016. St. Louis REALTORS® elected to make this great organization the recipient of our annual "Supplies for Success" school supply drive. We are already planning on working on a Halloween promotion with the Clubs to continue our relationship.

Ocala Marion County Association of REALTORS®

Club: Boys & Girls Club of Marion County
Years Involved: 1

In January when our Association heard of NAR partnering with the Boys & Girls Club of America, we knew immediately who we would like to see as our recipient for our Annual Chair-ity Event. Our local Boys & Girls Clubs of Marion County CEO, Stan Creel, was contacted by our Young Professionals Network Chair, Steve Rudnianyn, on partnering with OMCAR for this event and Stan and BGCMC Board Members were delighted to hear this news. This event will be held on October 7, 2016 at the Ocala/Marion County Association of Realtors® in Ocala, FL. We anticipate around 250 to attend this "Tailgating" themed event. We will be holding a live auction at this event full of whimsical, artistic, and "tailgating" themed chairs created by Realtor® members, Strategic Business Partners and local area businesses and organizations as well as a silent auction complete with tailgating must-haves, beautiful baskets and sports memorabilia.  A local winery and brewery will be donating samples of beer and wine, we will have Food trucks and of course you can't have a tailgating party without corn-hole games for entertainment. This event will be a great success!

Our Young Professionals Network of OMCAR plans to keep this relationship open with our local Boys & Girls Clubs and will be working with them on fundraisers and events in the future.
