A peek into NAR’s 2012 Home Buyer and Seller Profile gives insight into what motivates home buyers to become home owners. Thirty percent of all buyers reported the “desire to own a home” as the primary reason behind moving forward with their home purchase, and 60 percent of first-time buyers reported this as the primary reason.
Not surprisingly, when it comes to repeat buyers the primary reason for buying is slightly different. The decision evolves beyond a desire to own a home of their own, and is replaced by their desire to own a larger home (16 percent) followed by a job-relocation or move (13 percent).
“I have my reasons.” Other popular reasons to invest in homeownership include wanting to be closer to family and friends as well as a change in family situation.
