From extreme weather events like Superstorm Sandy to everyday concerns about energy consumption, there are a wide range of environmental issues that impact America’s property owners and communities. To help REALTORS® understand how the environment might change their communities and local quality of life, the National Association of REALTORS® recently hosted a gathering of some of the nation’s foremost experts on environmental risk management. Participants learned to identify, assess and prioritize future environmental risks and their impact on real estate transactions, the industry and property owners.
Many property owners are already showing sensitivity to the larger environment. Consumer preferences for walkable communities and energy-efficient homes are on the rise, according to NAR research, along with a considerable and growing market for green building.
