Celebrating National Homeownership Month

June is National Homeownership Month, a time to celebrate and advocate the American Dream of owning a home. Homeownership is still the best way for the majority of Americans to build wealth, support the national and local economies and create stable communities.

National Association of REALTORS® President Elizabeth Mendenhall, a sixth-generation REALTOR® from Columbia, Missouri and CEO of RE/MAX Boone Realty, made this statement: “REALTORS® pledge to continue to lead efforts to ensure that the dream of homeownership is not only possible, but very real, for any and all who want to achieve it, so they can have a place of their own to make memories, start growing their financial futures, and build strong communities.”

Story Springboard

Look at the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s National Homeownership Month Toolkit. Also, look at NAR’s Homeownership Matters website. Ask renters in your community if they desire to become homeowners and what, if anything, is holding them back. Speak with REALTORS® about homebuyers they have worked with and the reasons why they decided to become homeowners.
