NAR Presents Realtor® Larry Keating With Distinguished Service Award

SAN DIEGO (November 13, 2021) – Larry Keating, a Realtor® from Jefferson City, Missouri, received the National Association of Realtors®' 2021 Distinguished Service Award. The honor is presented yearly to no more than two of NAR's 1.5 million members. Winners were recognized during the 2021 Realtors® Conference & Expo in San Diego.

NAR established the award in 1979 to recognize Realtors® who have made outstanding contributions to the real estate industry and who serve as leaders in their local communities. It is considered the highest distinction an NAR member can receive. Recipients must be active at the local, state and national association levels, but must not have served as NAR president.

"It's my privilege to present Larry Keating with the Distinguished Service Award," said NAR President Charlie Oppler, a Realtor® from Franklin Lakes, N.J., and the CEO of Prominent Properties Sotheby's International Realty. "Larry's exceptional service to our association, the real estate industry, his fellow Missourians and our country makes him truly deserving of this honor."

Keating has been involved in real estate for 30 years and is broker-owner of RE/MAX Jefferson City in Jefferson City, Missouri.

"Being chosen by the DSA selection committee as one of this year's honorees is the highlight of my career as a Realtor®," said Keating. "The DSA is our industry's most highly respected award, and I am humbled that my contributions were considered worthy of such an honor."

Keating has held several leadership positions within the association, including multiple terms on NAR's Board of Directors. He has also served as a member of NAR's Finance Committee and its Reserves Investment Advisory Board. Keating was a president's liaison in 2018 and NAR's Region 9 vice president in 2010, where he represented Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.

Keating is a two-time member of the Realtors® Political Action Committee Hall of Fame.

In partnership with NAR, Keating successfully led statewide campaigns resulting in the passage of two constitutional amendments in Missouri. In 2010, Missouri Realtors® won public support for an amendment prohibiting transfer taxes on real estate transactions. In 2016, Missouri passed an amendment prohibiting a tax on services.

Keating served four years in the U.S. Coast Guard where he was stationed on a polar icebreaker for three years and sailed around the world several times.

Keating led the Mid-Missouri Youth Basketball program for 15 years, coaching young men to national level wins in Amateur Athletic Union basketball. He is currently involved in the Jefferson City Chamber of Commerce's Civic Progress Committee.

The National Association of Realtors® is America's largest trade association, representing more than 1.5 million members involved in all aspects of the residential and commercial real estate industries.
