20,000 Realtors® Converge on San Francisco to “Imagine the Possibilities”

SAN FRANCISCO (November 7, 2019) – The National Association of Realtors® opens its annual conference tomorrow as 20,000 Realtors® converge on San Francisco to experience the largest annual event for the most successful real estate professionals.

“Imagine the Possibilities” serves as the conference’s theme as participants – coming from all 50 states, several U.S. territories and more than 60 countries – can interact with more than 400 exhibitors at the industry’s largest trade show and choose from more than 100 educational sessions on a wide array of topics, including technology trends impacting the real estate market in 2020, defending against data breaches, blockchains and cryptocurrencies, selling “smart homes” while avoiding potential litigation or consumer disputes, and marijuana legalization laws and their impact on real estate, among many others.

“Realtors® from across the country and real estate professionals from around the world come together with experts from technology, government, business and media to discuss opportunities and challenges in the ever-changing real estate landscape,” said NAR President John Smaby, a second-generation Realtor® from Edina, Minnesota, and broker at Edina Realty. “For four days, the preeminent real estate event of the year provides a fertile ground for idea generation, sharing of best practices, impactful learning, networking, community service, and much more.”

NAR will host a news conference on November 8 where Chief Economist Lawrence Yun will share the latest outlook for the residential housing market and present his commercial real estate and economic forecast. In addition, Smaby and NAR Vice President of Research Jessica Lautz will unveil data from the association’s 2019 Profile of Home Buyers and Sellers.

Some of sports' brightest stars will look to inspire attendees over consecutive days. Basketball legend and successful business entrepreneur Earvin “Magic” Johnson will deliver the keynote address during the conference’s general session on November 9. The following day, tennis legend and social justice pioneer Billie Jean King will share stories from her groundbreaking life and career.

Frank Abagnale, author of Catch Me If You Can, will address Realtors® with fraud prevention advice and tips on how institutions, associations and corporations can outsmart cybercriminals.

During Saturday’s Federal Legislative and Political Forum, Stanford University professor and former Facebook Chief of Security Alex Stamos offers his thoughts on Facebook’s role in elections, transparency in paid ads, as well as voter fraud. Airbnb’s Casey Aden-Wansbury and PayPal’s Devin Whitney will join Stamos to discuss data security, data privacy and technology within highly regulated Silicon Valley industries.

On the morning of November 9, conference-goers can participate or cheer on their friends for a good cause in the first-ever Realtors® Relief Climb where participants will climb the stairs of Oracle Park, home of the San Francisco Giants. The event benefits the Realtors® Relief Foundation and San Francisco Association of Realtors® Welcome Home Project.

Three-time Grammy® Award-winning and multi-Platinum-selling singing group Pentatonix will perform in concert for attendees on Sunday, November 10.

NAR installs its 2020 officers on Monday, November 11, during the association’s Board of Directors meeting.
