Congress passes "Tenant Star" Legislation

On Tuesday, April 21, the House of Representative passed S.535, the "Energy Efficiency Improvement Act of 2015."  More commonly known as the "Tenant Star" bill, it was sponsored by Senators Portman (R-OH) and Shaheen (D-NH) in the Senate, where it was passed in late March.  Once signed into law, the Energy Efficiency Improvement Act of 2015 will establish the "Tenant Star" program, a voluntary, market-driven approach to aligning the interests of commercial building owners and their tenants to reduce energy consumption and save money.

On April 9th, NAR joined a coalition letter with other industry groups urging the House to take up S. 535 and quickly pass it.  It has been sent to the President where it awaits his signature to be enacted into law.
