The New Vietnam

"...Vietnam is a far different place today than it was in April 1975, and the freeze-frame impression of Vietnam formed by many Americans in 1975 is now not only outdated, it is positively misleading. Vietnam can no longer be dismissed as an impoverished Asian apostrophe between Thailand and the Philippines. European, Japanese, and other business people and investors discovered Vietnam as a land of economic opportunity not long after the reunification of North and South Vietnam, in 1976. By and large, Americans did not.
